On last night's 73rd Annual GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS, Tom Hanks presented actor Denzel Washington with the Cecil B. Demille Award, given annually to a talented individual who has made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment. Washington's achievements as a performer and a filmmaker have earned him seven Golden Globe Award nominations in two categories, resulting in two wins. He's also the recipient of two Academy Awards, two Emmy nominations, one Tony Award (for FENCES in 2010), one BAFTA Award, one NAACP Image Award, and a Grammy Award for his narration of the legend of "John Henry."
Washington most recently appeared in "The Equalizer," directed by Antoine Fuqua. Playing the role of "Robert McCall," Washington portrays a veteran covert operative who seeks redemption for his dark deeds. He can next be seen in Fuqua's "The Magnificent Seven," starring alongside Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke, set to be released in September 2016.
As BWW previoulsy reported, the two-time Oscar and Tony Award-winning actor/filmmaker will be producing the entirety of August Wilson's 10-play American Century Cycle for HBO. In addition, the actor will be directing, producing and starring in August Wilson's FENCES, the play for which he won his Tony Award, for the cable network.
