We've lost many a theatre artist this past year, from actress Barbara Cook to playwright Sam Shepard. The Society of London Theatre paid tribute to those who've made contributions to the world of theatre in their "In Memoriam" segment at Sunday's Olivier Awards broadcast.
Actor Michael Sheen introduced the segment and lineup of performers for the tribute. The BBC concert orchestra, conductor Larry Blank, and the ArtsEd Choir were joined by Tony-winning actress Chita Rivera and Olivier winners Andy Karl and Adam Bernard for musical accompaniment during the tribute. The trio gathered for a moving rendition of "Somewhere," from Stephen Sondheim's West Side Story.
"To those friends who are on this footage tonight, and many others who aren't," Sheen said in his introduction. "We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your contribution to our stages."
