Now that the majority of #Ham4Ham shows are digital, it's even more exciting when a rare live performance is announced. This afternoon, the Chicago cast of Hamilton made their live #Ham4Ham debut with a special holiday edition of the popular lottery-based event, and the crowds turned out in droves!
According to the Chicago Tribune, fans wrapped around the block beginning early this morning for a chance to try their hand at the miracle of winning the Hamilton lottery. Just before the official drawing, Miguel Cervantes (Hamilton) and Joshua Henry (Aaron Burr) were joined by several of their fellow cast members for an impromptu performance.
Although #Ham4Ham is a tradition that began with the Broadway production of Hamilton, the Chicago cast has added their own flavor to the mini-concerts, with a series called #HamJams, which features musical covers performed by the cast and led by Henry. The group began the performance with a cover of "My Shot," featuring Cervantes rapping about his family's journey after finding out during the audition process for Hamilton that his daughter, Adelaide, has epilepsy.
Following the emotionally-charged number, the group turned to their twist on a holiday classic, Jingle Bells, inviting the audience to sing along.
