For the past decade, Sesame Street music director Bill Sherman has written over 3000 original songs for the hit children's television series.
Theatre fans may know Sherman as orchestrator and music arranger for the Broadway and touring productions of In The Heights, having known Lin-Manuel Miranda since college. He worked with Miranda yet again when he produced the Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Album with The Roots for Atlantic Records. He also performs with Miranda in hip-hop improv group, Freestyle Love Supreme.
Sherman recently sat down with the Today Show to discuss his work on Sesame Street, and how he feels he has a responsibility to the children.

Sherman won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for In the Heights and the 2008 Grammy Award as the co-producer of the In The Heights Original Broadway Cast Album.
He also won the 2011 Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song-Children's and Animation for Sesame Street's "What I Am" and the 2014 Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song-Children's and Animation for Sesame Street's "The Power of Yet" as well as the 2018 Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song-Children's and Animation for Sesame Street's "A Song About Songs" featuring Sia. He was also nominated for a 2009 Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music for the theme music to AMC's "Storymakers."
Bill is the Music Director of Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and Nature Cat on PBS and HBO as well as Julie's Greenroom on Netflix. Recently, he produced the Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Album with The Roots for Atlantic Records and composed the music for All Things Must Pass, a documentary about the rise and fall of Tower Records directed by Colin Hanks. He was also the Music Supervisor for "Hello, World!" a new series on The Discovery Channel. He is a co-host of Questlove Supreme on Pandora with Ahmir Thompson of the Roots and Phonte Coleman of Little Brother.
