Jeff Daniels stopped by this morning's TODAY to talk about his Tony-nominated role in Broadway's intense drama Blackbird. "It's been our mission to put the pedal to the metal every single show, and it's been hard," shared the actor, adding "but that's what it's supposed to be. Jeff Daniels was recently nominated for a 2016 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for his role as Ray in
Blackbird. Daniels won the Emmy Award for Best Actor as Will McAvoy in THE NEWSROOM. In 2009, he earned a Tony nomination for Best Actor in GOD OF CARNAGE. He won the Obie Award for Johnny Got His Gun and a Drama Desk Award for Fifth of July.
The actor has written 16 plays, including Guest Artist and Across the Way. His films include The Martian,
Steve Jobs, The Squid and the Whale, The Purple Rose of Cairo and Terms of Endearment. He has recorded seven albums of original material, including Never Gone Before.
Daniels and
Michelle Williams star in
David Harrower's Olivier Award-winning drama
Blackbird. The production, directed by
Joe Mantello, began previews Friday, February 5, and opened on Thursday, March 10, at the Belasco Theatre (111 West 44thStreet).
Blackbird will play an 18-week limited engagement through June 12, 2016.
