Specialists in introducing contemporary audiences to worthy, but neglected plays, The Mint Theater Company's new production will probably be a first introduction for many of its audience members to the work of N.C. Hunter.
Hunter was one of the more popular English playwrights during the 1950s, with his dramas featuring such distinguished cast members as John Gielgud, Sybil Thorndike, Ingrid Bergman,Ralph Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave and Michael Redgrave, but he only had a brief fling on Broadway in 1955 with his Chekhovian drama A DAY BY THE SEA.
True to form, the production starred American theatre royalty, Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. Austin Pendleton directs the Mint's new production of the story of a middle-aged man recalling his disappointments in life and reaching for an opportunity to start fresh.
