Recording artist Tori Kelly performed a moving tribute to those lost this year in the television industry on last night's 68th ANNUAL EMMY AWARDS. Actor Henry Winkler opened the segment with a tribute to the late director Garry Marshall, whose many hit projects included Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley and the film Pretty Woman.
Others honored in the video segment included Alan Rickman, Jon Polito, Anton Yelchin, Doris Roberts, Al Molinaro, Garry Shandling, Muhammad Ali, William Schallert, Merle Haggard, Alan Rickman, FrEd Thompson, Abe Vigoda, Natalie Cole, David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Patty Duke, Alan Young, George Kennedy, Jon Polito, Gene Wilder, and Prince.
Earlier in the evening, late comedian Garry Shandling was honored by his TV co-star Jeffrey Tambor, who joked in his tribute, It seems appropriate that we celebrate comedy, we remember a legendary stand-up, fantastic Emmys host, a great real late-night host, a great fake late-night host, a great fake late-night host who David Duchovny was sexually attracted to. He was happy with his poor vision, because he said it meant he could date anybody." Later in the ceremony, Tambor picked up an Emmy himself for his work in Amazon's Transgener.
