He may have to whip up a few more before attaining the same status as Arthur Miller or Eugene O'Neill, but David Javerbaum is guaranteed a spot in American theatre history as Broadway's first scribe to write a play based on a Twitter account, the now defunct @TheTweetOfGod.

AN ACT OF GOD provided some breezy summer fun earlier this season, with Jim Parsons holding court as the almighty one at Studio 54. The premise of the show, that God has come to earth in the guise of whatever celebrity may be playing him and the he has decided to add to his ten commandments to address current issues, means that Javerbaum needs to regularly update the script to make it topical, and when needed, adjust the introduction to suit the evening's star.

As reported previously on BroadwayWorld, Tony nominee and Emmy winner Sean Hayes, who is currently starring in AN ACT OF GOD at San Francisco's Golden Gate Theatre, will be taking the play back to Broadway in a limited 14-week engagement at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street) beginning May 28, 2016.

"I can't wait to return to the Great White Way this summer, embodied by the brilliant Sean Hayes," says God. "I'm particularly excited to spend 14-weeks at the Booth Theater, because when you think about good things happening in a theater, the name you think of is 'Booth'!"

In a recent post-performance Q&A, Javerbaum spoke about his inspiration for the play, how his own feelings about religion are worked into the text, and mentions a casting possibility for the future.

Los Angeles critics responded to the heavenly successful run in the City of Angels at the Ahmanson Theatre by calling Sean Hayes "DIVINE" and proclaimed the production "funny as hell," "faithful and nonbelievers alike find pleasure and insight and you'll laugh your ash off" and "it's a revelation, though must see it!"
