Since 1917 New York's Drama Book Shop has been a regular haunt for both theatre professionals and loyal fans, providing the city's most extensive collection of scripts and theatre-related publications for sale. In 2011, the shop was presented with a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre.
It's not unusual to see other Tony-winners browsing through their shelves. ALADDIN's song and dance Genie, 2014 Best Featured Actor in a Musical Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart, recently stopped by to do some shopping and took time out to give an impromptu plug for the New York institution.
Aladdin opened on Broadway to critical acclaim on March 20th, 2014 and quickly established itself as the biggest blockbuster in recent years, already welcoming over one million people and breaking six New Amsterdam Theatre house records. NBC-TV raves "Aladdin is exactly what you wished for!"New York Magazine calls it "Musical comedy wish-fulfillment!" while The New York Times hails the show as "Fabulous... Extravagant! It defies expectations," and the Daily News declares, "Seriously, it's amazing!"
Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, the show features music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar® winnerAlan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Sister Act), lyrics by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman(Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (Evita, Aida) and four-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Beguelin, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winnerCasey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).
