VIDEO: 1,000 Volunteers Sing Free Performance of THE PUBLIC DOMAIN, Saturday at Lincoln Center Plaza

Every week, some of the world's greatest artists can be seen performing at New York's Lincoln Center. On Saturday, August 13th, 1,000 others will get a chance.

At 5pm that afternoon, a volunteer chorus consisting of anyone who signed up and attended three rehearsals will premiere Pulitzer Prize winner David Lang's "the public domain," a piece inspired by the theme of the collective knowledge shared among us all.

The free performance, taking place in Lincoln Center's plaza, is one of the offerings for the 50th Annual Mostly Mozart Festival.

No special training was required, nor an ability to read music. Participants were required to attend three rehearsals scheduled between August 2nd and 13th, one of which was a movement rehearsal. Children age 10-17 were welcome to join if a parent or guardian was also participating.

"This piece is a kind of utopian activity, an experiment in how to build a better world," says Lang. "And I have a feeling there are a lot of people in New York who would like to build a better world."
