The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey was recently awarded a $20,000 Arts and Culture grant from the Summit Area Public Foundation (SAPF), a community foundation that makes grants to tax-exempt organizations that fund programs in Summit, New Jersey, and nearby communities. The grant awarded to the Art Center was made to fund several programs with the goal of providing high-quality visual arts enrichment to residents of Summit, regardless of income level, age, or any other limitations. Some of those programs include:
· Removing Barriers to Art Access for Summit Families - The primary objective of this program is to ensure the Art Center is reaching all Summit residents by providing tuition waivers for low-income Summit residents. In the inaugural year of the program, tuition waivers will be provided for 40 sessions, including classes, workshops, and summer camps.
· Art from the Heart - This program provides seniors with mild- to moderate-aging disorders the opportunity to express themselves through the weekly creation of art in the form of both painting and drawing. The art projects are developed to enhance memory and improve overall sense of well-being, and are led by professional art educators. Through this program, the Art Center will provide 48 weekly one-hour sessions at SAGE Eldercare's Summit facility for up to 18 participants.
· Afterschool Arts Enrichment with the PEP Program - This program brings Personal Education Program (PEP) students to the Art Center to view current exhibitions and create art projects based on what they have seen. This year's program will include three sessions with up to 10 seventh-grade students per session.
