The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre is joining forces with the unlikeliest of bedfellows - The NY Musical Theatre Festival. In an effort to prove that musical theatre can be both funny and hip at the same time, the NYMF and UCBT have created The Musical Comedy Series.

The series will feature scripted and improvised shows, including Chicago's world-renowned musical improv group, Baby Wants Candy. The audience gives Baby Wants Candy a made-up title for their musical, and they improvise a full-length, hour-long musical on the spot.

Scripted shows include Monica! The Musical! (starring Frenchie Davis from American Idol) - the hilarious story of Bill Clinton and that infamous girl in the blue dress.

Also, GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! - a ridiculously funny performance of an inspired yet misguided musical about Johann Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press - written and performed by Anthony King and Scott Brown.

And don't forget Dances With Pitchforks - John Flynn's tale of divas colliding in a production of Gypsy.

And Listen Kid..., the kids' musical that's not really for kids, written by "The Colbert Report" scribe Peter Gwinn.

Other musical improv shows include "I Eat Pandas and Friends" and "The PEarl Brunswick." Both groups create totally improvised musicals from the audience's suggestions.

All shows are performed at the UCB Theatre, 307 W. 26th Street (btwn 8th and 9th Avenue). Tickets are $15 and $10. Check www.nymf.org or www.ucbtheatre.com for more information and showtimes.

Dedicated to discovering new work and new artists, The New York Musical Theatre Festival celebrates the diversity, creativity, and future of musical theatre. NYMF is a flagship program of the National Music Theater Network, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and is America's largest annual musical theatre event. NYMF is produced in association with Cadillac and Virgin Megastores and proudly supported by amNewYork, Village Voice, WB11, Receptasign, King Displays, WNYC, Reuters Financial, Niaterra, Rosco Lighting, Scharff Weisberg, Dodger Stages, TheaterMania.com, BroadwayWorld.com, Broadway.com, KPMG LLC, Izze, Manhattan Living, HX, Zero In Media, Panasonic Astrovision, Next, BroadwayBox.com, HotNYCdeals.com and TheMenEvent.com.
