Coming Up In October On TheAlternateSide.org
Monday, January 3rd - TAS in Session: Erland and the Carnival - UK folk rockers Erland and the Carnival indulge happily in their fondness for florid and rougher 60s-derived sonic textures. The so-called "supergroup" - which includes former Verve/Blur/The Good, The Band & The Queen member Simon Tong, The Orb/The Cult's David Nock and frontman Erland Cooper - release a debut album in the States this January. When they dropped by Studio A recently, they played three songs for us, including "Trouble In Mind," a clever reconfiguration of the classic "Greensleeves."
Monday, January 10th - TAS in Session: Moondoggies - Seattle's Moondoggies, who blogged about their Bumbershoot Festival adventures for TAS this year, came by Studio A for a proper session, marking the autumn release of their second album, Tidelands. The quintet, who achieved early attention thanks to an MTV series, rolled out a quartet of songs for the TAS session, including "Empress of the North" and "It's a Shame, It's a Pity."
Monday, January 17th - TAS in Session: Karen Elson - British-born singer and songwriter Karen Elson might seem to have a charmed life when compared to other young musicians releasing their debut albums; she's married to
Jack White and she's had a wildly successful career as a top fashion model. But her debut album, The Ghost Who Walks, was a surprise for anyone who doubted her musical chops; the record is a crafty, alt-country album of sturdy, sweetly-sung songs. Elson dropped by Studio A to play several of those live for The Alternate Side, like "Cruel Summer" and "Stolen Roses."
Monday, January 24th - TAS in Session: The Hundred in the Hands - The Brooklyn duo of Eleanore Everdell and Jason Friedman made their debut this past September with their lush, new wave-leaning, self-titled album and came by The Alternate Side to play a few of their glittering pop gems.
