The Chicago cast of Wicked will perform songs that have nothing to do with Oz or Shiz in a cabaret-style benefit that will raise money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS; a date has yet to be announced.

The Chicago sit-down production of Wicked was recently nominated for five Jefferson Awards--the show received a nod for "Production, Musical,"
Ana Gasteyer and Kate Reinders for "Principal Actress, Musical," Rondi Reed for "Musical, Supporting Actress," and Joe Mantello for "Director, Musical." Starring Gasteyer as Elphaba, Reinders as Glinda, Christoffer Kusick as Fiyero, Reed as Madame Morrible, Gene Weygandt as The Wizard, Heidi Kettenring as Nessarose, Telly Leung as Boq and Steven Skybell as Doctor Dillamond.

Wicked, based on the Gregory Maguire novel, "is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for the most spellbinding musical in years." The Chicago production of the show began performances at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts' Oriental Theatre (24 W. Randolph St.) on June 24th and opened to rave reviews. Wicked features a score by Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman, direction by Joe Mantello and choreography by Wayne Cilento, as well as sets by Eugene Lee, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Kenneth Posner and sound by Tony Meola.

Wicked opened on Broadway (where it continues to be the top-grossing show) on October 8th, 2003 with Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as the respective green and pink witches. Shoshana Bean, Megan Hilty, Ben Vereen and Rue McClanahan currently star in the musical on Broadway, while Stephanie J. Block and Kendra Kassebaum headline a national tour that is currently circling the country.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) is the nation's leading industry-based, not-for-profit AIDS fundraising and grant making organization. BC/EFA is the on-going, committed response from the American Theatre community to an urgent worldwide health crisis. By drawing upon the talents, resources, and generosity of this community, BC/EFA raises funds for AIDS-related causes across the United States. Since its founding in 1988, BC/EFA has raised over $100 million for critically needed services for people with AIDS, HIV or HIV-related illnesses.
