The University Choir of Ghent was established by students at the beginning of the academic year of 2000-2001. At the end of 2001, Joris Derder came to direct and he opened up the road to growth. Now, the choir consists of about 50 students and doctoral candidates from various disciplines.

In addition to the half-yearly concerts on its own accord, the Choir performs solemn proclamations, academic meetings and conferences. It also participates in provincial tournaments of Choir and Voice. In February 2006, the choir was classified in the first division at this tournament and in February 2009 the choir astonished judges and audience and it was promoted to first place.

Every year, the University Choir of Ghent travels to a foreign country to perform. They have already sung in Austria, Hungary, England, and Denmark. In 2007, the choir accepted an invitation for the festival "Tour de Carillon" and travelled to Poland and in July 2008, their voices resounded in the Basque Country. After Poland the choir visited Spain in 2009 and joined the Garda Lake Music Festival in Italy a year later, and had the honour to sing in the Basilica of San Marco. Their concert at St. Bartholomew's Church is part of their first tour of the US.

At St. Bartholomew's, the choir, conducted by Joris Derder, will sing works by Lauridsen, Chilcott, Rutter and Whitacre as well as popular works of Bernstein and Bacharach.

This free concert will take place at St. Bartholomew's Church at the corner of Park Avenue and 51st Street. Subway: 6 to 51st Street. For more information, call (212) 378-0222 or visit www.stbarts.org.
