Solo shows from all over the world are invited to submit for 2019 United Solo Theatre Festival. The world's largest solo theatre festival will celebrate its tenth anniversary season this year, taking place as usual at Theatre Row, located in the heart of New York's legendary theatre district. The Festival dates are September 19 - November 24.
World premieres and already-produced shows are equally welcome to submit for the festival's consideration. Submitted proposals may include storytelling, improv, dance, musical, puppetry, multimedia, stand-up, magic, tragedy, comedy, and other forms of solo performance.
Theatre companies are given the opportunity to reach the industry, generate income from ticket sales from up to eight shows at the Festival, and receive media attention through previews, profiles, reviews, and other articles. Shows are also considered for awards in many categories. Winners from past seasons include Pedro Almodóvar, Gordon Clapp, Sherry Glaser, Joe Gulla, Estelle Parsons, Austin Pendleton, LynnMarie Rink, and Eric Roberts. Many of the awarded artists will be invited to join the United Solo Academy, a creative group that helps the Festival nominate and select solo performers to receive the annual United Solo Special Award. Over the past few years, this honorary prize was presented to Anna Deavere Smith, Patti LuPone, John Leguizamo, Fiona Shaw, Billy Crystal, James Lecesne, Staceyann Chin, Cynthia Nixon, Michael Moore, and Renée Taylor.
