United Solo Offers Master Classes With Anne Bogart, Professors Of UCLA, Juilliard, and Allan Corduner From MY FAIR LADY

United Solo will host a Master Class with Anne Bogart, internationally acclaimed director, author, and Head of the MFA in Directing Program at Columbia University. This Master Class is a unique opportunity to work with a legendary theatre artist. It will take place on November 5, 2018 from 6pm-8pm at Theatre Row in New York City. The next Master Class will be given by Marek Probosz (Nov. 15, 6pm-8pm), professor at UCLA and actor with more than 50 starring roles in theatre, film and television. Other exciting Master Classes soon approaching will be given by Janis Brenner (Nov. 29, 6pm-8pm), award-winning multidisciplinary artist, and faculty member at The Juilliard School; and Allan Corduner (Dec. 10, 6pm-8pm), internationally renowned actor, currently starring in "My Fair Lady" on Broadway. All Master Classes are hosted by United Solo, a New York-based company dedicated to the genre of solo performance. Since its inception in 2010, United Solo has featured over 1,000 productions from all over the world. Founded by Omar Sangare, United Solo presents solo performances, connects theatre artists with their audiences, and produces its new series of Master Classes for theatre artists, students, and enthusiasts with all levels of experience. The United Solo Professional Training Program is led by world-class theatre professionals, whose accomplishments and credits guarantee an excellent educational experience. Anne Bogart ("WORDS AND ACTIONS MATTER," Nov. 5, 6pm-8pm): "As a director, I understand that acting requires tremendous courage. Scientific experiments have proven that an actor standing upon the stage and speaking to an audience is under more stress than an Olympic high jumper in the midst of a competition. I have tremendous compassion and admiration for the feat of walking onto a stage in front of an audience and speaking the truth."

MAREK PROBOSZ ("ACTING FOR CAMERA," Nov. 15, 6pm-8pm): "In some cultures, it is difficult to perform scenes containing intimacy on stage, whereas in others, it might be easier. Blending backgrounds and traditions is a creative act. In this context, cultural exchange can facilitate great art, because it requires the convergence of people's souls."

Janis Brenner ("MOVING, SOUNDING, ACTING," Nov. 29, 6pm-8pm): "As a longtime multidisciplinary artist, I believe it is crucial for actors, dancers, singers, musicians to be deeply and wisely connected to their body as an instrument of expression, imagination, empathy and meaning. Allan Corduner ("VOICE TRANSFORMATIONS," Dec. 10, 6pm-8pm): "It's hard enough being an actor but I think to be a solo performer you have to be absolutely driven, and have a burning desire. It's incurably brave for people to stand on their own and say something. That's definitely something to celebrate."

Anne Bogart is a Co-Artistic Director of the ensemble-based Siti Company, head of the MFA Directing program at Columbia University, and author of five books: "A Director Prepares," "The Viewpoints Book," "And Then You Act," "Conversations With Anne" and "What's the Story." With SITI, Bogart has directed more than 30 works in venues around the world, including "The Bacchae," "Chess Match No. 5," "Steel Hammer," "The Theater Is a Blank Page," "Persians," "A Rite," "Café Variations," "Radio Macbeth," "American Document," "bobrauschenbergamerica" and "Hotel Cassiopeia." Recent opera works include Handel's "Alcina," Dvorak's "Dimitrij," Kurt Weill's "Lost in the Stars," Verdi's "Macbeth," Bellini's "Norma" and Bizet's "Carmen." Her many awards and fellowships include three honorary doctorates (Cornish School of the Arts, Bard College and Skidmore College), a Duke Artist Fellowship, a United States Artists Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Rockefeller/Bellagio Fellowship and a Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Residency Fellowship.

Soulful leading man Marek Probosz is an international theatre, film, and television actor, who also writes and directs for theatre and film. Probosz's stage credits include the role of Odysseus opposite award winning British actor Henry Goodman in "Philoktetes" at the Getty Villa in Malibu. He wrote, directed and starred in the original Odyssey Theater production of "AUM or Tormenting of Actors." Probosz's theatrical adaptation of Wilde's "Salome," which he wrote, directed and starred in, was cited by the Czech National Critics Poll as the No. 2 artistic event of 1986. Probosz has more than 50 starring roles to his credit. His film and television career spans roles in Polish, Czech, German, French, Italian and U.S. productions and co-productions. In the United States, he most recently guest starred on CBS' "Scorpion." He also had guest starring roles on ABC's "Scandal," CBS' "Numbers," NBC's "JAG" and USA's "Monk." He received impressive reviews from The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety for his portrayal of Roman Polanski in the CBS miniseries "Helter Skelter." Probosz teaches in the UCLA Department of Television, Film and Theater, and has taught at the Warsaw Theater Academy and Emerson College in Los Angeles. He has also given lectures on screenwriting at international film events and has been a distinguished jury member at film festivals throughout Europe, including the Moscow International Film Festival and the International Theater and Film Festivals in the Russian cities of Blagoveshchensk, Kazan, and Tomsk.

Janis Brenner is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist and Artistic Director of Janis Brenner & Dancers in NYC. Known for her "meticulous artistry" (The Village Voice), she has toured in 36 countries and is recognized as a "singular performer" with a multifaceted artistic range. Honors/grants include the NY Dance & Performance Award ("Bessie") for her performance in Meredith Monk's "The Politics of Quiet"; the Lester Horton Award for Choreography in LA; the NY Foundation for the Arts Fellowship; the Fund for U.S. Artists at International Festivals; the U.S. State Department; Asian Cultural Council; the Trust for Mutual Understanding; UNESCO; U.S. Embassies in Bosnia, Moscow, Jakarta and Dakar; and a commission for the interdisciplinary work "The Memory Project" from the Whitney Museum of American Art. Her work has been commissioned/restaged by more than 50 companies and colleges worldwide and she performed with Meredith Monk and Vocal Ensemble from 1990-2005, and in 2014, recording on ECM Records. Ms. Brenner was a soloist with the Murray Louis Dance Company from 1977-84, working with Rudolf Nureyev, Placido Domingo, Dave Brubeck Quartet, Joseph Papp, Bat Sheva Dance Company in Israel, and Alwin Nikolais. Janis Brenner & Dancers has performed throughout the U.S., Asia, Russia and Europe since 1989 and has been presented by leading NY organizations.
