As BWW reported last month, Lady Gaga was rumored to be in discussions to star in Bradley Cooper's upcoming remake of A STAR IS BORN. Now, Variety reports that the Grammy winner is "on board" with the project and that negotiations are currently underway.

Beyonce was previously rumored to be in talks for the lead role made famous on screen by Barbra Streisand. However once she departed the project due to scheduling conflicts, Gaga was high on Cooper's list to take on the role. Warner Bros. has not confirmed the casting but is reportedly eyeing a February 2017 production start date.

A STAR IS BORN follows a few years in the lives of Esther Blodgett, a promising young Hollywood starlet known to her fans as "Vicki Lester", and Norman Maine, the older, alcoholic actor who started Esther's career as his own career was fading. Vicki Lester rises to international fame and popularity while Maine sinks into obscurity and suicide. The original 1937 film was produced by David O. Selznick and starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. A Star Is Born has been remade twice, in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, and in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson

Cooper recently starred in Broadway's THE ELEPHANT MAN, for which he received a Tony nomination for Best Lead Actor.

Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Lady Gaga has sold over 27-million albums, 130-million singles, and over 4-million tickets globally to her award-winning live performances. The singer has won a total of 6 GRAMMY AWARDS - most recently for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Cheek To Cheek, her 2014 collaboration with Tony Bennett, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. She recently starred on TV in FX's AMERICAN HORROR STORY: HOTEL for which she won a Golden Globe Award.
