As BroadwayWorld previously reported, cast member of Cirque du Soleil's KA Sarah Guillot-Guyard died on June 29 after a fall during her performance at the MGM Grand. A mother of two, Guillot-Guyard was 31. This is the first fatality resulting from an onstage accident in Cirque du Soleil's 30-year history.
The Clark County Coroner's office is saying, via Variety, that Guillot-Guyard fell 90 feet, rather than the 50 originally reported, and died of blunt force trauma. The death has been ruled an accident, and the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is conducting an investigation. Guillot-Guyard slipped out of her safety wire while performing on the show's vertical stage during the finale. Immediately following, the show halted and an announcement was played through the sound system informing the audience of refunds or vouchers for future performances. Guillot-Guyard was born in Paris and graduated from the Annie Fratellini Art & Circus Academy. She performed as an acrobat and aerialist for 22 years and was the head coach of CirqueFit, Cirque du Soleil's exercise program for kids.Videos
