Northern Manhattan's UP Theater Company announces details of its next production, Broad Channel by the company's artistic director James Bosley.

Named for the marshy isle under the flight path of JFK Airport, Broad Channel is described as a biting new drama about a struggling blue collar family that comes to blows when they learn that a treasured painting brought home by Grandpa George, a hero of WWII, is worth a million dollars... and was stolen from a victim of the Holocaust.

The Washington Heights venue is Cabrini Repertory Theater, 701 Fort Washington Avenue, New York, NY 10040.

BROAD CHANNEL is directed by Kathy Gail MacGowan. The Producer is Rik Walter. The cast features company members Matt Higgins, Laura Fois and Rik Walter. They are joined by Elissa Middleton and Andrew Albigese.

Says author James Bosley, "We didn't start UP just to give us all work. We started it because we wanted our neighborhood to have the kind of professional theater that would rival any in the city. But when the play lost Firehouse Theater Project's New American Play Festival Award by one vote, the company decided that we had to do it. And it just so happens that we have three primo roles for three of our very talented founding members."

The crew includes: Michael Friedlander, Stage Manager; Set design by Patrick J. Rizzotti, Lighting by Duane Pagano; Costumes by TBA, Sound by David Lawson, Graphic Design by Gretchen Mergenthaler.

The play previews tonight, April 30th, then runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 3.

UP Theater Company was founded in 2010 by Inwood theater artists who endeavored to bring professional productions to their own neighborhood of Northern Manhattan. Eschewing crowd-pleasing chestnuts, UP focuses on new work by contemporary playwrights. They soon established a reputation for being gritty, rambunctious, and irreverent.

UP Theater Company receives support from The Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, The Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center Neighborhood Fund, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Papasito Restaurant and PRG Lighting. Evydent, and New Heights Realty.
