Unconventionally Intimate, usually performed in living rooms, will receive a new staging for the United Solo Festival on Saturday,

October 6th at 2:00 pm at the Studio Theatre at Theatre Row in midtown Manhattan. Tickets are $45.

Alex is a fearless woman who loves falling in love. And she's done a lot of it. With men, with women, with men and women. On land, in the Hudson, and at a sex club in Berlin. Unconventionally Intimate is the startlingly honest telling of her experiences discovering what was possible when she threw traditional expectations out the window. Unconventionally Intimate has been performing in apartments and artist lofts throughout NYC since 2017. For this performance, the show will get a new staging for the Studio Theatre at Theatre Row.

"One thing that is really exciting about this show is that it kind of rejects form" said Director Brooke M. Haney. "When we were workshopping it, we didn't know what to call it: Stand up? Storytelling? Ted Talkesque? It didn't seem to be any one thing. But what we kept hearing from the audience was that they couldn't stop talking about it. And they were returning, time and again, bringing their friends and lovers and co-workers. So we decided that the label wasn't important." "Every time I meet audience members after a show, I am blown away by their comments, especially those from women" said Playwright/Performer LaPlante. "They talk about the shame they experience around their sexuality, and many will start telling intimate anecdotes about their past and present lovers before I can even ask. Some are hilarious. Some are heartbreaking. All of them leave me proud and humbled that my stories empower women to start sharing their own." Following the performance, there will be a meetup at a local bar, to be announced, for the audience to mingle.
