Transport Group, Giering's 'Crossing Brooklyn' Opens 10/28

Transport Group, the winner of a special 2007 Drama Desk Award and a 2007 Obie Award, will present Crossing Brooklyn, a world premiere musical, with music by Jenny Giering and book and lyrics by Laura Harrington, and directed by Artistic Director Jack Cummings III (a Drama Desk nominee for Transport Group's The Audience) beginning performances Friday, October 19, at the Connelly Theatre, 220 East 4th Street, between Avenues A and B.  The opening has been scheduled for Sunday, October 28.

"A modern musical that deals with the emotional aftermath of September 11 in New York, Crossing Brooklyn tells the story of Des and AJ, a young, idealistic couple—both public school teachers bent on changing the world, one kid at a time.  Life is full of promise and endless possibility until Des begins to unravel under the weight of her fears, ignited from that fateful September day.  Splitting apart from the pressure, they struggle to find their way back to each other.  The lessons they learn will change them forever," explain press notes.  With music by a Jonathan Larson Award-winning composer and book and lyrics by an Emmy Award winner.

The cast of Crossing Brooklyn is J. Bradley Bowers (Tarzan), Jenny Fellner (Mamma Mia!), Blythe Gruda (Room Service), Susan Lehman (I Can Get It For You Wholesale), Bryce Ryness (Public's 40th anniversary Hair), Clayton Dean Smith (Outward Bound), Ken Triwush (Titanic), Kate Weiman (Shiloh Rules), and Jason F. Williams (The Black Suits).

The set design for Crossing Brooklyn is by Sandra Goldmark; the costume design is by Shana Albery; the lighting design is by R. Lee Kennedy (Drama Desk nominee for The Audience); the sound design is by Michael Rasbury; the choreography is by Scott Rink; orchestrations are by Mary-Mitchell Campbell; musical direction is by Brian J. Nash; casting is by Nora Brennan Casting; dramaturgy is by Adam Perlman; production stage manager is Wendy Patten

Crossing Brooklyn plays Wednesday through Saturday and Monday at 8PM, Saturday at 2PM, and Sunday at 3PM through Sunday, November 18, at the Connelly Theatre, 220 East 4th Street, between Avenues A & B (6 to Astor Place, W/N to 8th Street or F/V to Second Avenue).  There is only one performance on Saturday, October 20 at 4PM.  The evening performance on Saturday, October 27 is at 7PM.  The running time is 95 minutes.
