Dame Edna: Back with a Vengeance opened at the Music Box Theatre on November 21st, 2004 and closed on May 1st, 2005.  "Devised and written" by Barry Humphries (and with additional material by Andrew Ross), the show also featured lyrics by Humphries and Wayne Barker, as well as music by Barker.  In addition to the Dame herself, Back with a Vengeance featured Barker as the Master of the Dame's Musick, Teri Gianfelice and Michelle Pampena as the Gorgeous Ednaettes, and Randy Aaron and Gerrard Carter as the Equally Gorgeous TestEdnarones.

Dame Edna received the 2000 Special Tony Award for a Live Theatrical Event for her Broadway debut in Dame Edna: The Royal Tour, which also won a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Special Achievement Award. Dame Edna has previously toured the U.S. with A Night With Dame Edna. Created in 1956 by Humphries as his outrageous alter ego, Dame Edna is "a national icon in her native Australia, as well as a housewife, talk show host, adviser to British royalty, widow, investigative journalist, guru and legend."  Under his own name, Humphries has appeared in such shows as Waiting for Godot and Oliver!; he received the Order of Australia in 1982 and an Honorary Doctorate of Griffith University (in Australia) in 1994.
