Ghostlight had two highly-attended, successful backer's auditions at The New 42nd Street Studios on December 2nd. This is the first time a show has added a third reading so quickly due to popular demand. The January 13th reading will take place at Theater Three, 311 West 43rd Street, 3rd Floor. Today in 1939, The Importance of Being Earnest opened at the Vanderbilt Theatre, where it ran for 61 performances. Written by Oscar Wilde, the show was first performed on 14 February 1895 at St. James's Theatre in London, it is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personae in order to escape burdensome social obligations. Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play's major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways.
