Top 22 Summer Shows Of 2018 Image

Looking for something affordable to do in the theatre capital of the world this August? Your summer starts in the eclectic East Village with Broadway Bound Theatre Festival. Still a hidden gem, returning for its second year, this year's festival features 22 not-to-miss original curated productions readying their way toward the bigger stage.

With at least two performances a day, this year's Main Stage presents a diverse and relevant cross-section of plays with gripping themes such as reincarnation, life after death, suicide, and even assassination. There's no shortage of compelling relationship dramas: two brothers with radically different politics, a grieving daughter's return to Israel, and a metaphorical play about young newlyweds questioning marriage. And topical pieces such as a dark comedy about a debaucherous Florida retirement community, a pop star's undoing by social media, a rural community's response to a crop circle, and a beautifully crafted work about a Yazidi woman in a refugee camp. Don't miss our opening night performance of Long Lost John, the little known true story of young John Lennon. And for the first time, BBTF is featuring a play for young audiences based on the story of Peter Rabbit.

Audience members can now also enjoy our Incubator Reading Series of brand new work still in the early stages of development, open and free to the public.

BBTF is this summer's most unique and affordable theatre experience. Catch these shows and their Broadway Bound playwrights in this community-building, joyous celebration of staged theater at the 14th St. Y--only a short walk from Union Square!

Performances run Aug. 4-26 at the Theater at the 14th Street Y. For a full list of shows and their synopsis visit the BBTF website: https://www.broadwayboundfestival.com
