Producers Joey Parnes and Larry Hirschhorn have announced that Christopher Durang's new comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which last night won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, will again extend its premiere Broadway engagement at the Golden Theatre. With this second and final extension, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will now end its run Sunday, August 25 (it was originally scheduled to end its run on Sunday, June 30). The critically lauded play has swept the awards circuit this year, having now been named Best Play by every major theatrical awards organization including the aforementioned Tony Awards, the New York Drama Critics' Circle, the Drama Desk, the Drama League, and the Outer Critics Circle. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike began performances on Tuesday, March 5 and opened on Thursday, March 14.

Directed by Nicholas Martin, the production currently stars Sigourney Weaver, David Hyde Pierce, Kristine Nielsen, Billy Magnussen, Shalita Grant, and Genevieve Angelson. Ms. Weaver will play her final performance on Sunday, July 28, and Tony Award-winner Julie White will assume the role of 'Masha' beginning Tuesday, July 30.

Julie White was seen on the NBC comedy "Go On" this season opposite Matthew Perry. She won the 2007 Tony Award for her performance in the Broadway production of The Little Dog Laughed after originating her role in the Off-Broadway production at Second Stage Theatre (Obie Award; Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel and Drama League nominations). She reprised the role in a production at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. Other NY theatre credits include the Broadway production The Heidi Chronicles and Off-Broadway productions ofTwelfth Night (Shakespeare in the Park), The Understudy (Roundabout), From Up Here (Manhattan Theatre Club), Fiction (Roundabout, Drama League nomination), Bad Dates (Playwrights Horizons), Dinner With Friends (Variety Arts), Barbra's Wedding (Westside Theater), Spike Heels and The Family of Mann (both at Second Stage) and three short plays for the Tribeca Theater Festival. Other theatre: Expecting Isabel, Gun Play, Bad Dates (Elliot Norton Award). Television: "Caveman" as Leslie, "Grace Under Fire" as Nadine Swaboda, "Six Feet Under" as Mitzi Dalton Huntley, "Damages," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Ally McBeal," "JAG," "Strong Medicine," "Touched By an Angel," "Arli$$," "The Heidi Chronicles" and "Law and Order." Film: Lincoln, Hello I Must Be Going, Inside Out, Killing Karma, The Astronaut Farmer, What Women Want, Michael Clayton, The Nanny Diaries Transformers 1, 2 & 3 and the upcoming Life Partners.

Riffing on some of Anton Chekov's most time-tested themes, Christopher Durang proves in his hysterically funny and surprisingly affecting new romp, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, that whether you're in 19th Century Russia or 21st Century Pennsylvania, the human condition never changes. Vanya (Pierce) and Sonia (Nielsen) have never left the confines of their childhood home - a rambling farmhouse in Bucks County, PA - while having to witness the glamorous exploits of their sister, Masha (Weaver), a famous movie actress, from afar. A surprise visit from Masha and her 20-something boy toy, Spike (Magnussen), throws the normally quiet household int0 utter upheaval as its residents and visitors get swept up in an intoxicating mixture of lust, rivalry, regret, and the sudden possibility of escape. Only one thing is certain: no one will get out of this without looking absolutely ridiculous!

The creative team features David Korins (Scenic Design), Emily Rebholz (Costume Design), Justin Townsend (Lighting Design), and Mark Bennett (Original Music and Sound Design).
