While in Atlanta to perform her cabaret act as a fundraiser for an AIDS service organization, Tony Award-winning actress Christine Ebersole sat for an interview with A&U Magazine, sharing her views on and work against the AIDS pandemic.

Ebersole, who is set to play M’Lynn in a production of Steel Magnolias when it launches on Broadway in early April, talked about the lessons learned from friends lost to AIDS, about prevention and education, and about what she believes it will take to bring an end to The Modern Plague.

Her interview appears in the February issue of A&U (Art and Understanding) magazine. A&U, a 14-year-old, feature-oriented, non-profit monthly is available on newsstands, through AIDS service organizations and by subscription. It is provided at no cost for people affected by HIV.

In the exclusive interview, conducted by A&U Editor-at-Large B. Andrew Plant, Ebersole also talks about her mother-in-law (who was a stripper), her joys as an adoptive mother of three, and the fact that she has been lucky to work fairly consistently throughout a 30-year career in show business.

In addition to the interview with Ebersole, the February issue of the magazine includes a new column, The Scene, devoted to AIDS fundraisers around the country. Another new column is Wellness Watch, which is devoted to holistic health for people with HIV/AIDS. This month the column focuses on Padma Basic, a Tibetan herb.

Treatment Horizons takes a look at New York City-based Project ACHIEVE’s work on preventive vaccine trials. Media Watch relates the tsunami disaster to AIDS coverage. In “Left Field,” Patricia Nell Warren explores possible FDA cover-ups of harmful drug side effects.

A&U’s web site (www.aumag.org) includes several new web-exclusive interviews and articles, which Managing Editor Chael Needle says are updated frequently, even between monthly issues of the magazine.
