Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell will host the Broadway Inspirational Voices fundraising concert, A Closer Look, on
Monday, October 12, 2009 at 8pm.

Brian Stokes Mitchell is the premier male star of the Broadway stage over the last two decades. His Broadway credits include Mail, an all-black revival of George Gershwin's Oh, Kay!, Jelly's Last Jam, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Ragtime, the revival of Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate, King Hadley II (2001) and Man of La Mancha (2002). He is a four time Tony Award winner - three for Best Lead Actor in a musical (Ragtime, Kiss Me Kate, and Man of La Mancha) and one for Best Leading Actor in a Play (King Hedley II). He has performed as a solo artist and guest star at concerts all over the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Symphony Hall, Tanglewood, the Kennedy Center and the White House. He starred in the PBS concert of "South Pacific" at Carnegie Hall and most recently performed there in a sold-out solo concert.

Broadway Inspirational Voices was originally founded by McElroy in 1994 as the Broadway Gospel Choir and in 1999 was reincarnated in its current form. In addition to numerous concerts, the group has performed on "The Rosie O'Donnell Christmas Special," Broadway Sings Elton John, The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation Benefit, The 2000 Tony Awards 2000, and OpSail 2000 for President and Mrs. Clinton. The Broadway Inspirational Voices second album Great Joy: A Gospel Christmas was released on Sh-K-Boom Records in 2003 and received a Grammy Award nomination.

Some of the shows represented by its members are Aida, Rent, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret and Off-Broadway's Godspel, Hairspray, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Man of LaMancha, The Look of Love, The Producers, The Full Monty, Moma Mia, Dance of the Vampire, 42nd Street, Into the Woods, and The Color Purple.
