Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie to Co-Star in TV Adaptation of THE NIGHT MANAGER

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie will be teaming up for a new spy drama based on John le Carré's novel THE NIGHT MANAGER. David Farr will adapt the script.

le Carré's THE NIGHT MANAGER centers on Jonathan Pine, "a British soldier turned luxurious hotel night auditor." In the book, "Pine crosses paths with a French-Arab woman named Sophie with ties to Richard Onslow Roper, an English black marketer who specializes in weapons. The woman provides Pine with incriminating documents, which he forwards to a friend in British intelligence. After Sophie winds up dead, Pine works with intelligence operatives and goes undercover as part of a sting against Roper to avenge Sophie's death."

Typical, multilayered and mysterious le Carré! Many of the author's works have been adapted for the screen, including Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, A Perfect Spy, The Constant Gardener, A Most Wanted Man and more.

Hiddleston's past TV work includes Family Guy, Robot Chicken, The Hollow Crown, Wallander, Cranford, Suburban Shootout and more. He most recently appeared on the big screen in the Thor movies and The Avengers. He's working on High-Rise, Crimson Peak, I Saw the Light and Skull Island and recently appeared onstage in Coriolanus in London.

This would be Laurie's first return to TV following his long-running role on Fox's House. Also in Laurie's queue is the film Tomorrowland.

No word yet on which U.S. network will nab the series, but the project will air via BBC in the U.K.
