It's a pleasure to welcome Richard Purro, directing for the first time at Titirangi Theatre. Richard is an American professional actor who recently directed for Pilgrim Theatre. He was seen here in Midsummer Night's Dream playing 3 roles; Philostrate, Starveling and the moon.
Richard writes these notes on the play.
"And the Winner Is..." is a fast and funny comedy that shamelessly lampoons Hollywood and its love of award ceremonies, while at the same time manages to be a gentle reminder to be considerate of other people.

The cast is made up of 4 men and 2 women.

Tyler Johnes, 40ish, an actor struggling to fight off "has-been" status. He's self-obsessed and insecure, but there might just be something deeper, if he can find it.

Seamus, 60ish, an almost stereotypically impish Irish barman; but since he's also Heaven's Gatekeeper (St Peter with a brogue) there's more than meets the eye to this very funny and sympathetic character.

Teddy LaPetite, 30ish - 40ish, French accent, Tyler's highpowered agent. A giant in the industry and very surprised to find himself suddenly at Death's Door.

Kyle Morgan, 20ish-30ish, Tyler's main acting rival. Hollywood's hot young gun, and he'd be the first to tell you.

Sheri, 30ish - 40ish, Tyler's long-suffering ex. She believed in him long after he stopped believing in himself. She's smart and steadfast.

Serenity, 20ish, Tyler's bombshell girlfriend. A struggling Hollywood starlet. The other's may be clueless as to how they got to the Pearly Gates: she's just clueless.

*Since this a spoof of Hollywood, good American accents are a must.
