According to The New York Times and other published reports, a suspect has been arrested in the Times Square bomb scare case.
The suspect, 30-year-old Faisal Shahzad, is a naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan. Shahzad and another unknown male were arrested when attempting to board a flight to Dubai from JFK International Airport Monday night. He is believed to be the owner of the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder in which the explosive materials, including several propane tanks, fireworks, and fertilizer were found.
The investigation is still underway; Shahzad's Bridgeport, CT home is being searched and police are reviewing Saturday night's security camera footage from the Times Square area.
Police closed off a portion of Times Square Saturday evening at around 6:35pm and evacuated the immediate area due to a bomb scare. Streets were closed on Broadway from 44th to 47th which resulted in delays for multiple Broadway shows. The Nissan SUV was parked on 45th street, west of Broadway.
