The 29th Street Playwrights Collective presents a staged reading of its first musical: Carrie Robbins' bittersweet paean to science and love, THE DEATH & LIFE OF DR. CUTTER, A VAUDEVILLE, Monday, April 3, 7 pm, at the Bernie Wohl Center.

The play with music was inspired by the observations of RD Robbins, MD, the playwright's late husband, whose humor and medical knowledge permeates the piece. Dr. Cutter is very sick. Now he can see every minute of what's left of his future. A mortality tale. With songs.

Joining previously announced cast members Lori Hammel, Ben Livingston, Neal Mayer and Erika Rolfsrud are John Robert Tillotson (Broadway: Enemy of the People; Seagull/NY Classical Theatre; Imaginary Invalid & Marriage/Pearl; Love's Labours Lost/Acting Co; Europe: Big Daddy on Cat on a Hot Tin Roof; Phantom of the Opera); Tom Treadwell (Broadway: Annie; Nat'l. Co: Bridges of Madison County; TV: Knick; Mercy; Law & Order, 30 Rock); THOMAS LEVERTON (Red at TheatreWorks; ATA's uncut Hamlet and R&J/Dalrymple Award); and JENNE VATH (Tooth of Crime and Chemistry of Love at LaMaMa; Anna Christie; Winter's Tale for Everett Quinton; Sawbones & The Diamond Eater/Nominated Best Supporting Actress, NY Innovative Theatre Awards.)

Carrie Robbins's play SAWBONES & THE DIAMOND EATER (HERE Arts Center, NYC), received six nominations from the NY Innovative Theatre Awards, and her other work has been both Semi-Finalist and Finalist in the NY New Works and Thespis Theatre Festivals. Robbins is also known as a Broadway costume designer.

Composed and arranged by Shelly Gartner (The Adding Machine/6th annual TRU New Musicals Reading Series); Gartner will accompany on piano and keyboard, with Ed Conte on bass. Lyrics by Robbins. The reading will be directed by Luke Tudball. Mr. Tudball has trained at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, London, the University of East Anglia, Norwich, the Russian School of Acting, The Actors Centre, London, The Actors Center, Washington DC, and TVI Actors Studio, New York. He is a member of British Actors Equity, the American Actors Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA, The Off-Broadway Alliance & APAP. He is the co-founding Artistic Director of the award-winning Tasty Monster Productions.

As a designer, Robbins has spent years designing costumes on Broadway & Off, here & abroad. In 2012 she received the TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for her body of work. In 2011 she became only the 2nd costume designer to be honored with a Monograph of her work (Amazon.com/ Drama-Bookshop/NYC). She has several Tony nominations, 6 Drama Desk Awards, Maharam, Henry Hewes, L.A. Dramalogue, Audelco, Salmagundi Fine Arts, 3 Prague Quadrennial, among others.

The 29th Street Playwrights Collective is dedicated to developing the voices of emerging, mature playwrights through weekly craft discussions and fostering new work for the stage through public readings and workshop performances of member's works. It is committed to serving at least 50% women writers and other collaborators.

29th Street Playwright Collective New Works Series is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
