Tickets for the Columbia Stages presentation of William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale directed by Rebecca Easton are now on sale to the public. Performances begin January 30 and run through February 2 at the Riverside Theatre.

Press notes state: "The production employs an eleven-member cast, each playing multiple roles, to tell a story of transformation and redemption that celebrates the mysterious alchemy of storytelling itself. One of Shakespeare's last plays, The Winter's Tale contains some of his finest poetry and most hair-raising plots turns. The roller coaster ride begins with a jealous king, Leontes, whose passions ultimately destroy his family, his friendships, and the stability of his country. The tragedy of his story is swiftly succeeded by comedy in a far different setting sixteen years later—one complete with pop songs, country dances, and a pair of sheep. The collision of tragedy and comedy ultimately results in one of Shakespeare's most moving final scenes, in which miracles are made possible and the nature of time is revealed.Drawing from American influences—politics during the Cold War, the Kennedys, Texan farmers & '70s era rock stars—this Winter's Tale is a fairy tale about moving forward in spite of tragedy, about loss and the possibility of restoration. But ultimately it is a celebration of stories and the power they wield, both to transform us and to awaken us.

The cast features Paul de Cordova (Leontes/Old Shepherd), Liz Eckert (Paulina/Dorcas), Christina Lind (Hermione/Mopsa), Matthew Gregory (Polixenes), Joe Sevier (Camillo), Shayna Padovano (Mamillius/Perdita), Cliff Campbell (Antigonus/Clown), Andrew Dahl (Autolycus/Lord), Jamie King (Florizel/Lord), Alison Weisgall (Ensemble), and Jehan O. Young (Ensemble).

The creative team is composed of Tim McMath (set design), Elizabeth Baggett Carlin (costume design), Kate Ashton (lighting design), Andy Leviss (sound design), Colleen Mylott (choreography), and Pamela Kierejczk (dramaturgy).

Performances run January 30-February 2, 2008 at The Riverside Theatre (91 Claremont Avenue Between 120th and 122nd Streets). Prices are $15 General Admission, $5 Seniors and free with Columbia University ID or other valid student ID (Subject to availability). For more information visit www.columbiastages.com
