MSG Entertainment and Citi Performing Arts Center wrap up their 2009 "Speaker Series: The Minds That Move The World," with political host and commentator Charlie Rose interviewing high profile political strategist James Carville and Former Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, Wednesday, May 27 at 8 p.m. at Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre. Tickets are currently on sale.

The "Speaker Series" is a timely and important series of events that will provide attendees with a unique framework for understanding America's current political landscape and place in world politics, through the insights of some of the most prominent political figures of our time. Due to the overwhelming success of last year's inaugural "Speaker Series" that premiered at Radio City Music Hall in New York, this unique political forum expanded to Boston in 2009 with three engaging events hosted by Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre.

The series is formatted to allow for each participant to present their thoughts on a wide range of important current events and national issues, followed by a moderated question and answer period during which the moderator can elicit additional information and insights into particularly pertinent topics of the day.

Charlie Rose

Emmy award-winning journalist Charlie Rose has been praised as "one of America's premier interviewers." He is the host of "Charlie Rose," the nightly PBS program that engages America's best thinkers, writers, politicians, athletes, entertainers, business leaders, scientists and other newsmakers. USA Today calls Charlie Rose, "TV's most addictive talk show." New York Newsday says, "Charlie's show is the place to get engaging, literate conversation... Bluntly, he is the best interviewer around today."

"Charlie Rose Special Edition" presents hour-long profiles on such prominent entertainers as Meryl Streep and Garth Brooks as well as weeklong specials on the cutting edge of science like the Human Genome Project.

Drawn from major exhibits at distinguished museums, his series called "Great Masters" takes an in depth look at an artist's biography as well as the artist's visual presentations of their art. All specials are produced by Charlie Rose, Inc., which also presents other programs in multi-media formats. Charlie Rose was born in Henderson, N.C. and graduated from Duke University with an BA in history and a JD from the school of Law. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has received honorary doctorates of law from C.W. Post College and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He is the recipient of the George Peabody Broadcasting Award, the Emmy Award and The CableACE Award.

James Carville

James Carville is America's best-known political consultant. His long list of electoral successes evidences a knack for steering overlooked campaigns to unexpected landslide victories and for re-making political underdogs into upset winners.

Carville's winning streak began in 1986 when he managed the gubernatorial victory of Robert Casey in Pennsylvania. A loser in three previous attempts, dubbed the "Three-Time-Loss from Holy Cross" by the media, Casey defeated popular Lieutenant Governor William Scranton, Jr. in a remarkable come-from-behind win thanks to Carville. In 1987, Carville helped Wallace Wilkinson, who commanded less than 1% of the vote in the early polls, win a hard-fought gubernatorial campaign in Kentucky.

In 1991, Carville-who had already become prominent in political circles-drew National attention when he led Senator Harris Wofford from 40 points behind in the polls to an upset landslide victory over former Pennsylvania Governor and U.S. Attorney GenerAl Richard Thornburgh. With the startling and unpredicted Wofford win, Carville exposed the political vulnerability of George Bush, who enjoyed 91% approval ratings during the Gulf War.

Having wounded the sitting President in 1991, Carville finished the job the following year when he guided William Jefferson Clinton to the Presidency in 1992. In 1993, Carville was honored as Campaign Manager of the Year by the American Association of Political Consultants for his leadership of Clinton's fearsome and intense "War Room" at campaign headquarters in Little Rock. Carville was also the focus, along with George Stephanopoulos, of the feature-length Academy Award nominated documentary "The War Room."

After the Clinton victory, Carville began to focus on foreign consulting. Since that time, Carville's political clients have included the following: Greek Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis; Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso; Honduran Prime Minister Carlos Flores; President Jamil Mahuad of Ecuador; the Liberal Party of Canada; Sao Paolo Mayor Celso Pitta, Argentine Economic Minister Domingo Cavallo, Francisco Labastida of Mexico, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Basdeo Panday; Hipolito Meija of the Dominican Republic; and many others spread across the globe. In 1999, Carville led Ehud Barak to victory in his campaign to become the Prime Minister of Israel.

James Carville is also an author, actor, producer, talk-show host, speaker and restaurateur. Author James Carville, (with co-author and wife Mary Matalin, former Assistant to President Bush and Counselor to Vice-President Cheney), first wrote "All's Fair: Love, War, and Running for President," which spent eight weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. The book was also named one of the top 5 best books on Public Relations by the Wall Street Journal. Carville's other books have included: "We're Right, They're Wrong: A Handbook for Spirited Progressives;" And "The Horse He Rode In On: The People vs. Kenneth Starr;" "Stickin';" "Buck Up, Suck Up...and Come Back When You Foul Up;" "Had Enough? A Handbook for Fighting Back; his children's book, Lu and the Swamp Ghost;" and 2006's "Take it Back."

In the fall of 2003, actor James Carville and wife Mary Matalin put a fresh and critically acclaimed spin on political consulting and on television in the HBO series "K Street," a political drama based on the working lives of Washington political consultants. In addition, Carville can be seen regularly on television as a CNN commentator and contributor. Most recently, Carville is hosting XM radio's 60/20 weekly sports show. Carville also co-produced the remake of the 1949 Oscar award-winning movie "All The King's Men."

Karl Rove

Karl Rove served as Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush from 2001-2007 and Deputy Chief of Staff from 2004-2007. At the White House he oversaw the Offices of Strategic Initiatives, Political Affairs, Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs and as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, coordinated the White House policy making process.

Karl has been described by respected author and columnist Michael Barone in U.S. News & World Report as "...unique...no Presidential appointee has ever had such a strong influence on politics and policy, and none is likely to do so again anytime soon." Washington Post columnist David Broder has called Karl a master political strategist whose "game has always been long term...and he plays it with an intensity and attention to detail that few can match." Fred Barnes, executive editor of The Weekly Standard, has called Karl, "The greatest political mind of his generation and probably of any generation... He knows history, understands the moods of the public, and is a visionary on matters of public policy."

Before Karl became known as "The Architect" of President Bush's 2000 and 2004 campaigns, he was president of Karl Rove + Company, an Austin-based public affairs firm that worked for Republican candidates, non-partisan causes, and non-profit groups. His clients included over 75 Republican U.S. Senate, Congressional and gubernatorial candidates in 24 states, as well as the Moderate Party of Sweden. As a Fox News contributor, Karl provides a "genuine feel of inside knowledge," says David Zurawik, a television critic for The Baltimore Sun. At Fox, Karl has "focused his punditry on what he knows best: strategy," (Megan Garber, Assistant Editor, Columbia Journalism Review). Even The New York Times' op-ed editor, Tobin Harshaw, observed that "Rove's substantive contributions may now inspire a little work ethic among the celebrity talking heads who may be forced to bring to the news a little more data and a little less opinion, a recalibration that would be welcome to its devoted viewers."

Karl writes a weekly op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, he is a Newsweek columnist and is now working on a book to be published by Simon & Schuster. A Colorado native, he attended the University of Utah, the University of Maryland-College Park, George Mason University and the University of Texas at Austin.

Karl has taught graduate students at the University of Texas Austin's Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and undergraduates in a joint appointment from the Journalism and Government Departments at the university. He was also a faculty member at the Salzburg Seminar. Karl was a member of the Board of International Broadcasting, which oversees the operations of Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, and served on the board of the McDonald Observatory. He was also a member of the boards of regents of two Texas state universities.
