PS 84 The Lillian Weber School Parent Teacher Association has just announced  that tickets are now on sale for their special cabaret event, Part of His World: An Evening with Alan Menken, to raise money for the school's enrichment programs. Menken will perform and discuss the songs that the world has come to know and love. The one-man concert and PTA auction will take place on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the New-York Historical Society (170 Central Park West, at 77th Street).

In addition to winning eight Oscars (with nineteen nominations) – more than any living individual -- Alan Menken has earned seven Golden Globes, ten Grammys, and three Tony nominations. His other achievements include Billboard's #1 album (Pocahontas), a #1 single ("A Whole New World"), induction into the The Songwriters Hall of Fame, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His film song-scores and dramatic underscores include Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Life with Mikey, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Home On The Range, The Shaggy Dog, Noel, Enchanted, Tangled, and the soon-to-be-released Mirror Mirror. Menken has been represented on Broadway by shows such as Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, and the currently-running Sister Act, with Newsies and Leap of Faith opening in the next few months.

Menken will be introduced by his longtime music director and conductor for all film, Broadway, and television projects, Michael Kosarin, a PS 84 parent. The evening will also feature a cocktail reception and live auction. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to http://ps84pta.eventbrite.com.

P.S. 84 is a Title I neighborhood elementary (K-5) school serving a diverse community, with educations that include a monolingual program, and Spanish and French dual-language programs -- the only school in Manhattan with three such programs.

The PTA works closely with the administration of PS 84, along with other organizations and foundations, to help create an enriched elementary school experience. Fundraising goals include supporting the arts, supplementing science programs, re-opening and maintaining the library, planting curriculum-based growing projects, building a rooftop garden for the school in collaboration with Columbia University, raising money for new athletic equipment, and realizing teachers' "wish lists".
