For the first time ever in New York City, tickets will be on sale tomorrow for the world premiere of Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS: PULSE opening on April 26th. The Discovery Times Square exhibit is the newest in the renowned BODY WORLDS series, which has presented the human body in groundbreaking ways for discovery to more than 36 million people around the world.
BODY WORLDS: PULSE shows the science and splendor of the human body, and deconstructs its form and function through the trailblazing science of Plastination invented by anatomist, Dr. Gunther von Hagens. It presents the body in health and distress, its vulnerabilities and potential, and many of the challenges the human body faces as it navigates the 21(st) Century.
BODY WORLDS: PULSE is a convergence of aesthetic anatomy, the latest findings in health and wellness, immersive multimedia, and narrative storytelling threaded with deep metaphors. It shows the possibility of living mindfully, with meaning and vitality, by refracting the story of life and self-actualization, through the donors, who have committed to educating future generations.
More than 200 plastinated specimens -- including whole bodies, body configurations, translucent slices, and organs, as well as interactive elements, 3D displays, and other multimedia -- are curated and presented in galleries that feature the various systems of the body. The locomotive, nervous, respiratory, circulatory, cardiovascular, digestive, and reproductive systems are presented in ways previously familiar only to medical practitioners. The biology and anatomy of the human body, and the continuum of life, are elucidated through anatomical dissections, scenes, and compositions. Visitors are taken on an epic journey of discovery through the human body.
BODY WORLDS: PULSE features donor bodies that belonged to people who declared during their lifetime that their body should be made available after their deaths for the qualification of physicians and the instruction of lay people, in the BODY WORLDS exhibitions. Many donors emphasize that by donating their bodies, they can be useful to others even after death.
Tickets are affordably priced from $19.50 to $25.00 and can be purchased at the Discovery Times Square box office at 226 West 44(th) Street; New York, NY 10036, by calling 866-987-9692 or by visiting http://www.discoverytsx.com/exhibitions/bodyworlds.
James Sanna, President of Discovery Times Square says, "Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS: PULSE is the definitive work of its kind. It is a transformative experience that illuminates The Miracles of the human body that we take for granted every day. This exhibition literally confronts us with how the body absorbs and reacts to the dizzying range of stimuli humans are exposed to in the 21(st) century. We are thrilled to host this exciting exhibit and finally bring BODY WORLDS to New York City for the first time."
Dr. Angelina Whalley, Master Planner for the BODY WORLDS exhibitions states, "For New York, I knew we wanted to present a contemporary epic about the human body living in the 21(st) century that resonated with everyone, which led to the development BODY WORLDS: Pulse."
