Thrive Commemorates National Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the United Solo Festival in NYC Next Month

"THRIVE: A Singular Journey to Survivor Island", Duvall O'Steen's one woman show directed by Obie Award winner and Grammy nominee Gretchen Cryer, is back home in New York City at the United Solo Festival: Monday, October 3rd at 9pm and Saturday, October 8th at 2pm in the Studio Theatre at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street), in commemoration of national Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM). A befitting theme for BCAM, THRIVE offers an intimate opportunity to crawl inside the heart and mind of a breast cancer warrior. With humor and grace, the performance reveals the Do's and Don'ts of loved ones attempting to share the struggle in a little over an hour.

"My mission is to expand our compassion and understanding for those battling life threatening illness," says O'Steen. "I'd like to open a deeper and more meaningful dialogue between healthy people and those around them who are living with cancer."

Based on the book The Cancer Club: No New Members Wanted by Nuala Forsey, this impactful piece of Live Theatre weaves Forsey's poetry and memoir to chronicle her real life struggles with breast cancer. Simultaneously battling personal life trauma, medical bureaucracy, professional challenges and physical limitations, Forsey shares an unforgettable tale of wit, pathos and triumph.

Following the United Solo Festival, O'Steen has been invited to perform the show in a benefit performance for the local chapter of Gilda's Club in Desert Cities on Thursday, October 13th at the Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs. The show debuted to a sold out crowd at The Players Theater in Greenwich Village in the spring of 2015 and has enjoyed benefit performances for the Hope Lodge in New Orleans in May of 2015 and the Episcopal Actor's Guild of New York in February of 2016.
