Deadline reports that Thomas Haden Church and Molly Shannon have signed on to star in the HBO comedy pilot DIVORCE. The actors will join previously announced cast members Sarah Jessica Parker and Talia Balsam. Jesse Peretz will direct.
Sharon Horgan and Paul Simms will pen and executive produce the project will follows "a very, very long divorce." Parker will star as Frances, described as "a woman who suddenly begins to reassess her life and her marriage, and finds that making a clean break and a fresh start is harder than she thought."
Church takes on the role of Frances' husband Robert, who is "surprised to learn that his wife's perspective on their marriage is different from his." Shannon will play Diane, Frances' "high-strung friend who has a successful husband, a beautiful house, and no children."
Shannon was nominated for a 2013 Emmy for her recurring role in HBO's Enlightened, and wrapped a stint on ABC's freshman comedy Super Fun Nightalongside Rebel Wilson. Other TV credits include Hannibal, The Middle, Happily Divorced, Web Therapy, Up All Night, Neighbors from Hell, GLEE, Kath & Kim, Pushing Daisies, American Dad!, 30 Rock, Cracking Up, Will & Grace, Sex and the City, In Living Color and more. Shannon also appeared on Broadway in Promises, Promises in 2010. Her next big-screen projects are Life After Beth and Larry Gaye: Renegade Male Flight Attendant.
