This Is Not A Theatre Company Extends Site-Specific VERSAILLES 2016

Back by popular demand after a run at the home of En Garde Arts producer Anne Hamburger, This Is Not A Theatre Company has extended the site-specific Versailles 2016 by Charles Mee and Jessie Bear. Performances are September 24 and 25, and October 21 and 29. Capacity is extremely limited at 20 persons per performance.

New York Theatre review said, "Versailles 2015 is over far too quickly. It is an hors d'oeuvre plate of scenes that collectively have a message about elitism and the vanity of apathy...Brief and poignant, Versailles 2015 will linger in your mind long after you see it."

Set in an actual New York City apartment, Versailles 2016 welcomes us to a privileged party in which audiences divide into small groups and follow characters into different rooms where surprises await: in the kitchen, a rant on the unifying powers of gourmet food; a virtuosic bathtub dance by JoNathan Matthews; and, in the livingroom, questions about gentrification. Simultaneously, collected footage of global crises streams unobtrusively on all manner of screens casually beamed into various rooms.

Versailles 2016 is created by the dynamic female duo, director Erin B. Mee and playwright Jessie Bear. The New York Times called their Staten Island Ferry Play a "spirited, meditative audio performance," while the Wall Street Journal said, "...as the ferry moves across New York Harbor, the vistas on that world change, giving the play a sense of vastness that contrasts with the intimacy of in-your-ear drama." Mee and Bear's collaboration on A Serious Banquetwas heralded by Show Business Weekly as a "profound immersive theatrical experience where performance and life intertwine effortlessly."

Versailles 2016 reunites Obie-Award winning playwright Chuck Mee with director Erin Mee after their acclaimed productions of The Imperialists at The Public Theatre, First Love at New York Theatre Workshop and The Magic Theatre, Festival of Life in the Place de l'Horloge, Avignon, and their 2014 Pool Play, deemed "An enjoyable immersive theatrical meditation on the role of 'the pool' in our everyday lives and the complexity of the human experience" byTheatre is Easy. One of the most distinctive voices in contemporary American theatre, Charles Mee offers this insight to his creative process: "Sometimes playwrights steal stories and conversations and dreams and intimate revelations from their friends and lovers and call this original. And sometimes some of us write about our own innermost lives, believing that, then, we have written something truly original and unique. But, of course, the culture writes us first, and then we write our stories."
