According to a report out today on Yahoo!, Theatre ranks among the "most useless" college majors, along with concentrations in fashion, animal science and farming. Yahoo! states: "Consider the National Association of Colleges and Employers' (NACE) 2012 Job Outlook study, which surveyed almost 1,000 employers on their future hiring plans. Many areas of study, such as fashion design and the performing arts, didn't even make the list."
Ranking as the major most likely to not yield direct employment is Agriculture, followed thereafter by Fashion Design, Theater, Animal Science, Animal Science and Horticulture. According to the study, the number of graduated acting, producing and directing hopefuls in 2008 totaled 155,100, whereas the projected growth of jobs from 2008-2018 is projected to be a mere 16,900 increase.
