As a means of making the pedicab industry safer for New York theatregoers, The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc., the trade association for the Broadway industry, has mobilized in support of the licensing, safety, insurance and reporting features outlined in Intro. 331-A. The League is urging the New York City Council to override the recent veto of the bill.
Pedicabs, the League contends, contribute to a dangerous and chaotic atmosphere in Manhattan's Theatre District.
"We believe that the theatregoing experience begins before the show starts, and continues after patrons leave the theatre and – to this end – we are very concerned about the growing number of pedicabs that invade the Theatre District after matinee and evening performances," commented Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director, The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc. "We believe that this bill is an important, vital step in insuring the safety of theatregoers and our employees."
The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc., founded in 1930 as the League of New York Theatres and operating under the "Live Broadway" trademark, is the national trade association for the Broadway industry. The League's 600-plus members include theatre owners and operators, producers, presenters, and general managers in 240 North American cities, as well as suppliers of goods and services to the theatre industry. Each year, League members bring Broadway to nearly 30 million people in New York and across the U.S. and Canada. Visit our website at www.livebroadway.com .
