According to the American Theatre Critics Association, Howard Shapiro, a long-time theatre critic from the Philadelphia Inquirer, has parted ways with the publication. On October 1, the Inquirer reassigned the Broadway critic to South Jersey coverage, after deciding that a full-time theater writer was no longer needed. Shapiro will continue as a theatre critic for Broadway productions with The Classical Network.

Shapiro had been on the staff of The Inquirer since 1970. After being the editor for the Travel section, he began writing theater criticism ten years ago. He currently teaches arts criticism and travel writing at Temple University.
