Theater To Go Presents a Staged Reading Of A RAISIN IN THE SUN  Image

THEATER TO GO continues its staged reading series at the 1867 Sanctuary in February 2018 with a classic play about the African American experience, Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN, about one family's journey to home ownership We are pleased to have actor students from Trenton Central HS Visual and Performing Arts Academy as performers in this event.

A RAISIN IN THE SUN will be presented on Saturday February 24 at 3 pm at the 1867 Sanctuary at Ewing.

These staged reading will be directed by Steve Gaissert for Theater To Go and will feature talk backs and refreshments after the performance.

A RAISIN IN THE SUN: by Lorraine Hansberry was recipient of the 1959 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award, Best Play of the YearSet on Chicago's South Side, the plot revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of the Younger family: son Walter Lee, his wife Ruth, his sister Beneatha, his son Travis, and matriarch Lena. When her deceased husband's insurance money comes through, Mama Lena dreams of moving to a new home and a better neighborhood in Chicago. The tensions and prejudice they face form this seminal American drama. The Younger family's heroic struggle to retain dignity in a harsh and changing world is a searing and timeless document of hope and inspiration.

THEATER TO GO welcomes Steve Gaissert who will be directing the readings. He recently directed Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike at The College of New Jersey. Steve has directed each year since 2013 for the One-Minute Play Festival which tours nationwide year-round, and in which the NJ performances have been staged at Passage Theater in Trenton, and the Luna Stage in West Orange. He also directed a workshop reading of Edmonia for the Passage Theater Play Lab. Steve Directed the staged reading of Ian August's The Aisling at the 1867 Sanctuary for
THEATER TO GO as well as the Love is In the Air Series in 2016.
