Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) presents the May panel, New Developments in Raising Money for Theater: Crowdsourcing and the New SEC Rulings, on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 7:30pm at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street, 3rd Floor Loft Theatre, NYC. Doors open at 7pm for networking and refreshments; roundtable introductions of everyone in the room will start at 7:30pm.

Panel will include Ruben Brache, founder of Opening Night Capital, LLC; Crystal Chase, digital account supervisor for AKA; Matthew C. Lefferts, attorney at Franklin, Weinrib, Rudell & Vassallo; and Brian Meece, CEO of RocketHub, a crowdfunding platform that's partnered with A&E Networks.

How do the new Federal Securities & Exchange Commission rulings affect who and how you can ask for money, especially here in the theater community? Though crowdsourcing has been widely used to bring in donations and "gifts" for all manner of projects and causes, the door now seems to be open for commercial investments as well, and not just from accredited investors. What are the limitations on who can invest in your show, and to what extent? Are there other ways of using the power of the Internet and social media to seek out investors? Is this good news, or might there be some unexpected challenges presented by this newly opened door?

Admission is $12 (free for TRU members). You may now pay in advance and save $2 - click here to pay $10 for the panel, which will also count as your reservation. Please RSVP at least a day in advance (or much sooner) for reservations: 212/714-7628; or e-mail TRUStaff1@gmail.com. Doors open at 7pm for networking and refreshments, roundtable introductions of everyone in the room will start at 7:30pm - come prepared with your best half-minute summary of who you are, and what you need.
