The Workmen's Circle's third annual Taste of Jewish Culture Street Fair-a signature event featuring the city's top Jewish food vendors-will take place on Sunday, June 26 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This year's event will be held on Sixth Avenue between 48th and 49th Streets and will feature modern takes on traditional Jewish foods, performances and activities for all ages, as well as free giveaways.
Joining forces with the landmark Orwasher's Bakery, the non-profit will distribute hundreds of classic rainbow cookies throughout the day in celebration of NYC Pride.
"This year, our annual Taste of Jewish Culture Street Fair takes place on the same day as the New York City PrideFest, and it couldn't be more meaningful to us than to be a part of the city's celebrations of the many vibrant facets of our society." said Ann Toback, Executive Director of the Workmen's Circle. "Rainbow cookies are really the perfect marriage of so many cultures: they are a standard in Jewish bakeries, have their roots in Italian cuisine, and, by their colorful appearance, evoke a delicious celebration of the day for us all."
The list of vendors is growing and includes to date Black Seed Bagels, Breads Bakery, Brooklyn Seltzer Boys, Brooklyn Sesame, Court Street Grocers, Danny Macaroons, Dizengoff, Fletcher's Brooklyn Barbecue, The Gefilteria with OneTable, Judy's Knishes, Kossar's Bagels & Bialy's, La Newyorkina, Marani Glatt Kosher Georgian Restaurant, Mile End Delicatessen, NY SHUK, OddFellows Ice Cream Co., Seed + Mill, and Taïm.
Food isn't the only thing on the menu: this year's event is hosted by comedians Tracy Soren and Jessie Jolles, the New York City-based improv duo known as soren & jolles. They'll lead trivia games such as "So You Think You're Jewish?" with local celebrities and Audience members. Klezmer musicians Howard Leshaw and the Klezmer Swing Orchestra will join them on the main stage, while artists guide dancing in the street.
Throughout the day, there will be activities for all ages including interactive Yiddish and a "joyful noise for justice" tambourine crafts booth for kids led by Workmen's Circle educators.
