After five years as the Cadillac Winter Garden, the historic theatre on 50th Street is once again the Winter Garden, according to the New York Times.

The theatre was named the Cadillac Winter Garden Theatre in 2002, when General Motors became a multi-million dollar sponsor of the theatre, which is owned by the Shubert Organization. Reportedly, the Shuberts earned about a million dollars a year under the deal (although details were not announced).

The reversion to the theatre's original name is due to General Motors' declining to renew the sponsorship agreement, which expired at the end of 2006.

The Winter Garden Theatre is currently playing host to the hit ABBA musical Mamma Mia!.  Established by the Shubert Brothers in 1910, the Winter Garden Theatre has previously housed such productions as Cats, 42nd Street, Pacific Overtures, Follies, Mame, Funny Girl, Once Upon a Mattress, Bus Stop, Wonderful Town, Hellzapoppin, The Show is On, and several editions of the Ziegfeld Follies and The Passing Show, among other famous revues.
