The Wedding Singer--the new Broadway musical based on the hit Adam Sandler movie--will march down the aisles of the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 30th for its first preview; the show will open on April 27th.
The Wedding Singer was previously seen in a tryout run at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre; it began previews there January 31st, opened February 9th and ended its run on February 19th.Stephen Lynch ("Comedy Central Presents") and Tony Award-nominee Laura Benanti (Nine, Into the Woods) star, respectively, as love interests Robbie and Julia, with Matthew Saldivar (off-Bway: Sea of Tranquility, Julius Caesar) as Robbie's best friend Sammy, Amy Spanger (Kiss Me, Kate, tick, tick...BOOM!) as Julia's best friend Holly, Rita Gardner (Morning's at Seven, The Fantasticks) as Rosie, Richard Blake (Hairspray, Aida) as Julia's fiancé Glen Gulia, Felicia Finley (Aida, The Life) as ex-fiancee Linda and Kevin Cahoon (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Rocky Horror Show) as George, one of Robbie's bandmates.

The Wedding Singer "is set in 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's
favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party — until his own
fiancé leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes
every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a sweet-tempered
waitress who wins his affection. The only trouble is Julia is about to
be married to a Wall Street shark. Unless Robbie can pull off the
performance of the decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever," state press notes.
The Wedding Singer is based on the 1998 film, which starred Adam Sandler and
Drew Barrymore. The show features music by Matthew Sklar, with
lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and a book by Tim Herlihy and Chad Beguelin. John Rando (Urinetown) directs the musical, while Tony Award-winner Rob Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie) is behind the choreography. The Wedding Singer also features sets by Scott Pask, costumes by Gregory Gale, lighting by Brian
MacDevitt and sound by Peter Hylenski. Margo Lion, New Line Cinema, The 5th Avenue Theatre, The
