Kate Burton and Tony Goldwyn will headline the off-Broadway premiere of Theresa Rebeck's The Water's Edge, which will begin performances at Second Stage Theatre (307 W. 43rd St., off 8th Avenue) on May 23rd, open June 14th and run through July 9th.
"A woman. Her two children. Their lakeside home. And the husband and father who returns following a 17-year absence...the show is a mysterious family drama that explores the question, 'What wouldn't you do for your child," according to press notes. Will Frears (Ominum Gatherum) will direct the play by Rebeck, who has penned such works as Omnium Gatherum (a Pulitzer-finalist co-written with Alexandra Gersten-Vassilaros), The Family of Mann and Spike Heels. The play will also feature Austin Lysy, who appeared in The Water's Edge alongside Burton at the 2004 Williamstown Theatre Festival; that production was also helmed by Frears.
Burton received Tony nominations for her work in Hedda Gabler and The Elephant Man; The Constant Wife, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, An American Daughter and Company are among other credits. Goldwyn appeared on Broadway in Holiday, and off-Broadway in The Exonerated, Spike Heels, The Sum of Us and Digby. He has also been seen in films such as Ghost, Bounce and The Last Samurai.
Second Stage Theatre is currently presenting Douglas Carter Beane's hit Hollywood satire The Little Dog Laughed through February 26th, and will next unveil Paul Weitz' Show People, which will run from March 14th through April 30th.
