Find out next week as The Underground Theatre presents Clown Bar, a 70-minute clown noir play written by Adam Szymkowicz.
Clown Bar is styled as a darkly comic "clown noir," hearkening back to the golden age of film noir, with its hard-boiled antiheroes, sultry leading ladies, and twisted, sinister villains. But this time around, they're all clowns.
Join Happy Mahoney, a former clown who's turned in his red nose for a police badge, as he investigates the murder of his little brother, Timmy, an unfunny clown who turned in desperation to the violent and drug-ridden underbelly of clown life. As Happy digs deeper and deeper into his investigation in search of retribution, he uncovers more than he bargained for: an unexpected culprit, facing the lady clown he left behind and discovering the unsettling truths about his ambitions.
The New York Times says you'll "roll your eyes constantly during Clown Bar - at its groan-worthy puns, its lewd double-entendres, and its intentionally bad jokes. But you'll also laugh quite often. This is a show made for those who enjoy a few winces along with their grins."
Join us on March 30 from 6:30-7:30pm for a pre-show Opening Night party, courtesy of Ignite Studio and The Red Herring Lounge, for 2-for-1 drink specials (before the show), door prizes, special guest appearances by The Duluth Dolls, and clown nose photo opportunities. All performances begin at 7:30pm, but don't miss the pre-show action starting at 7:00pm.
This show contains strong language and some mature content.
