On Thursday, July 16, the Theater People Podcast welcomes Broadway vet and ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK star Lea Delaria. On the episode, DeLaria shares stories from her nearly 35-year career as a stand-up comic, jazz musician, Broadway leading lady, and film and television actor.
DeLaria, who broke into show business in the 1980s as a stand up comic, shares stories from her early days working the comedy clubs of San Francisco, Provincetown, and Boston before becoming the first openly gay comic to perform on national television with her appearance on THE ARSENIO HALL SHOW in 1993. She made her Broadway debut in 1998 as Hildy in the George C. Wolfe helmed ON THE TOWN. She returned to Broadway in 2000 in the dual roles of Dr. Scott and Eddie in THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW. Her biggest Hollywood break came in 2013 when she landed the role of Big Boo in the Netflix mega hit ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. She is currently promoting her latest jazz album THE HOUSE OF DAVID from Ghostlight Records. The album is available for digital download.
